Kuumba: The Creativity Principle
By Dr. Gloria Latimore-Peace
Presented by Omni-University
It has been said that creativity is a gift from God- a gift God gives to us. When we use it in a Godly manner, we give the gift back to God. The principle of "Kuumba", Creativity, means: "to do all that we can in the way that we can in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than when we inherited it".
Kwame Steve Cobb is a Culture Worker who, with his wife, Chavunduka, composed, arranged and performed in "The Seven Principles" Album. Distinguishing himself and his fellow Culture Workers from those who seem to be primarily driven by money, he observed, "Our commitment to do the work is not attached to the dollar. Our commitment to do the work is attached to the positive outcomes that our people need. There's a segment of our community that is totally committed to that...Music is one of the most powerful conduits for transmitting concepts and ideas and when it is accompanied by life- sustaining images, it truly has the power to change behavior."
