Motherwit: On Feeling Too Small

Updated: Oct 6, 2023

By Ayoka N. Boahene

Presented by Omni-U Virtual University

As the Mom in Residence of Omni-U Virtual University, my role is to share some of the helpful lessons I've learned throughout my motherhood journey with other parents and their children, as I endeavor to help my own children navigate through their challenges. In last weeks H3O Art of Life Blog, I shared with you what I received from prayer on the subject of fear, after one of my daughters who was on the precipice of breaking through to achieving one of her biggest goals, got "shook" and called me in the midst of a mini breakdown.

The following is another part of the message I received during that time, that helped me to help her re-set, calm down, and continue moving forward with faith that any effort she has made or will ever make will always be fruitful:

And the Lord said: If ye had faith, as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamore tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea: And it should  obey you. Luke 17:6 KJV

You can feel small or you can actually  be small in stature or in some other dimension. You may only be able to muster up  enough courage to introduce yourself to someone who hasn't met you before.. Maybe you sometimes find yourself at a loss for words, so you have  little to say in the moment. You may only have just enough energy to show up.

Do what you can. Give God just a little something to work with. He is the God of the tiny - the infinitesimal. There is evidence of this throughout the universe. He takes the tiniest seeds and raises a forest. Out of the microscopic eggs inside the womb of a woman, he brings forth nations. Give God what you have and He will use it! He will multiply it. He will magnify it.

God gave David a slingshot to slay a giant. God took two small fish and 5 loaves of bread and fed 5,000 starving people.

Don't concern yourself with whether what you have or what you can do is enough. It matters not what you can do. It's what God can do with what you do. Give God an offering. Give God what you have and He will quicken it: He will breathe life into it. Even if you think of it as nothing compared to what everyone else has to give, it is more than enough for God.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV, Paul quotes Jesus who said, “My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” God's power is shown through what He is able to generate and manifest from the most unlikely sources. That is why He can do infinitely more than we can do with very little or nothing.

You're never too small, too weak, or too meek. God delights in the small and the meek. Some of His greatest works are done through them.

In addition, what we see as inadequate or insufficient is only seen that way because we're viewing it from our limited perspective.  The stars seem small from where we stand. But, the star -which we call the sun- that appears to be so small-  is not actually small at all. It is big enough and powerful enough to sustain life on earth!

We never have any idea about the magnitude of an action, or of a thing. We are admonished  to "Lean not unto [our] own understanding." Proverbs 3:5 KJV.

Since we don't share the perspective of our God, let God be the judge. What we believe to be insignificant never is in the sight of God. 🙏🏽
